How often should I have my chimney swept?
It’s recommended that wood burning stoves are swept up to four times a year, depending on usage. Most house insurers will void your insurance if you don’t have your chimney swept at least once a year, even if you haven’t used your fire at all. If you live in a thatched property, at least twice a year is recommended. It’s important to book an annual sweep not only for the health of your appliance and flue system but also for the health of you and your family as unswept flues can become degraded or blocked from build-ups like tar or creosote, this can lead to hazards like chimney fires or carbon monoxide poisoning.
A basic sweep will take around 60 minutes. This includes preparation time to ensure your home is kept clean and tidy during the sweep. This time may differ for some open fires and if your house is more than two stories tall.
Chimney sweeping can be a messy business, however every effort is made to protect you home and furnishings. Floor runners and sheets will be laid down and put across any nearby fabrics to prevent soot from making contact. If you have small children and pets, it’s best to move them to another room as the industrial vacuum cleaner can be loud for them.

Cash or card are the preferred methods of payment upon completion of chimney sweeping. Bank details will be available on your sweep certificate. Invoices can be provided upon request.
